Morrisons - Pork Thick Sausage




The readers of Rate My Sausage seem to like Morrisons.  In our poll to find out which supermarkets were most despised Mozzers came out very well:  Supermarket-Poll  


But do they offer good sausages?  There was only one way to find out.  We grabbed a pack of Morrisons Pork Thick Sausages (that’s how they’re described on the packaging!) ready to chuck them in the trusty old pan.  Things got off on the wrong foot when we opened the oversized waxy paper pack – eight pale sausages slithered out, squashed into unattractive square tubes.  Yuk!





Meat Content:
76% according to the packaging, so we “must” believe that.  But the taste and the chew doesn’t seem to match up to the figure.  There may well be 76% of this “stuff” that comes from a pig, but it absolutely, definitely, I promise, not anything like proper cuts of pork that you find real butchers using.  Uniquely, these sausages appeared to be thinner after cooking than they were before.





Flavour:
What flavour?  There’s so little going on with these sausages!  It’s almost a joke that a major supermarket can put a product as awful as this onto their shelves.  What little taste sensation actually registers is a “slightly salty” one, with a background filler of “nothing at all”.  Dismal.


Texture:
Even and unremarkable.  I can’t say any more than “even”, or “uniform”, or “flat”.  There’s no real texture in these sausages, they are bland and boring and bloody awful.  No interesting bits, either of super tasty pork or the odd gristly bit....nothing.  Terrible.





Shrinkage: 
Average weight uncooked - 57g
Average weight cooked - 44g

Shrinkage - 23%


Value For Money:
£1.79 for eight sausages, weighing 457g - this works out as a price of £3.92 per kg, or 22p per snorker.

Very cheap, but not good value for money.  You gets what you pays for.





Through A Child’s Eyes:
This paragraph will be perhaps the most damning of this review.  Junior Sidekick usually enjoys the cheaper sausages, as most children seem to.  But not these.  We used some of them in a toad-in-the-hole on Saturday night and both agreed that it didn’t taste as good or as satisfying as usual (the pie fluffed up beautifully, as expected – see the pic) – and at that point my son said “I think it’s cos the sausages are no good”.  From the mouths of babes, etc.  The remaining sausages were intended for our Sunday morning fry-up, and he even went as far as to ask if we could have some different sausages to go with the bacon, eggs and beans!  So please draw your own conclusions about Morrisons Pork Thick Sausages, when a nine year old boy thinks they’re terrible....


Opening Hours:
Morrisons is a ginormous international conglomerate, and they’re open “quite” long hours.  But you’d best check with your local shop before you visit as there are differences between stores.  Just don’t buy their own sausages....
