Traditional Pork Scratchings by Black Country Snacks

 Review by Lynda from Lincolnshire

Price:

£1.10 for 45 grams, which works out as £2.44 per 100 grams

Flavour:

Not evenly flavoured, some quite bland, and others had me reaching for a drink. Score 3.5

Texture:

Nice crunch without fearing for my teeth. Score 4.0

Soft bits/hard bits ratio:

There were a lot of soft parts to balance the crunch. Score 3.0

More-ish-ness:

Sort of, but had a mega-salty bit last so would have stopped there anyway. Score 4.0

Urgh bits:

None here. Will mention there was a lot of crumb.

Worth the money?

Pricey and lots of bits so maybe not. Score 0

Mr Porky - Original Scratchings

  Review by Lynda from Lincolnshire

Original scratchings from Mr Porky, Corby, Northants

Cost :

£0.89 for 65 grams

Flavour:

Delicious with loads of seasoning. Score 4.

Texture:

Crunchy and plenty of soft savoury parts, mostly bite size pieces. Score 4.

Soft bits/hard bits ratio:

Nearly perfect as you would expect from “the Nation’s favourite” (quote from their packaging). Score 4.

More-ish-ness:

Absolutely more-ish, hard to stop eating once you’ve had one. Score 4.

Urgh bits:

No yucky bits here so no points deducted.

Worth the money:

Yes, and there was just the right amount in the bag. Score 2.

Total points = 18.0

Pick's of Dorrington - Pork Scratchings

 Review by Lynda from Lincolnshire

Pork scratchings from Picks butcher, Dorrington, Lincs.

Cost
 £1 for 100grams.

Flavour:
Good and savoury but not enough seasoning for my taste. Score 2.

Texture:
Most of the pieces were extremely crispy with not much of the soft, salty parts. Score 2.

Soft bits/hard bits ratio:
Nearly all hard bits. Score 1.

More-ish-ness:
I picked out the ones I could get in without biting as they were so crispy I feared for my teeth! The one I did bite actually shattered it was baked so well. Score: 1

Urgh bits:
No yucky bits here so no points deducted.

Worth the money:
No, sorry. Not for me.

Total score = 6

G Simmons & Sons - Pork Crunch

Review by RMS Twitter mate @LittleVillan71

Name of product

G. Simmons & Sons Pork Crunch

Price

£0.55 for 30 grams, which works out as £1.83 per 100 grams – bought from Asda.

Flavour

3.5 Mild saltiness with a hint of artificial flavouring which leaves a slight after taste. Good taste of porky crackling.

Texture

4.0 I like softer scratchings, but not too soft that end up eating dust in your mouth and coughing like you have Covid. These are soft but retain a good satisfying level of crunch.

Soft bits/hard bits ratio

2.0 All soft and no nasty hard bits.

More-ish-ness

4.0 I found them very easy to eat and would eat more of them with or without a beer.

Worth the money?

2.0 Low cost but a great scratching for the price if you like softer scratchings. Because they are lighter scratchings (Puff) you also see plenty in a bag for the volume of weight compared to that of the harder and denser scratchings, giving the appearance of great value for money.

Midlands Snacks - Traditional Pork Scratchings

Welcome to the first ever RMS pork scratchings review!

Price

£0.99 for 40 grams, which works out as £2.47 per 100 grams.

Flavour

2.5 decent saltiness and deffo pig in there.

Texture

2.5 as it's the first review we'll go down the middle, a solid 2.5 for texture.

Soft bits/hard bits ratio

1.5. I'm a soft bits fan so the slight predominance of the crunchies wasn't perfect for me. However the poll on RMS seems to show that most people prefer the hard bits, so what do I know?

More-ish-ness

1.5 A decent offering for now, this will become more critical as reviews are done. But for now, yes, who doesn't want more scratchings?

Urgh bits

No trace of anything yucky here, good work Midlands Snacks.

Worth the money?

Nearly a pound for this pack. Is it worth it? Not 100% sure so will have to dodge this category this time.

A decent (maybe) score of 8.0 for this first pork scratching under the microscope. Top of the league!
