Here at Rate My Sausage we have been scoring each sausage tested so far, but not publishing the scores. We’re still very ambivalent about doing so, as rating a new sausage half a point above another - ipso facto - states that one is “better” than the other. Food is a subjective topic at the best of times, and we all enjoy different tastes, so we are not overly comfortable with the idea of imposing our own, personal tastes onto the World Of Sausages.
If you want to see the scores so far email me, and I will show you, provided you’re trustworthy! Percy Weiper - no mate.
The only blank column in my scoring spreadsheet is “Shrinkage”.
So far the shrinkage scores have been as following: 23, 15, 32, 15, 32 ,18, 18, 16, 20, 0, 15, 26, 22, 12, 21, 33, 14.
My judging categories are marked out of 5. So how to score the shrinkage?
A simple sliding scale?
0 to 10 - 5 points
11 to 15 - 4
16 to 20 - 3
21 to 25 - 2
26+ - 1
More divisions?
0 to 10 - 5
11 to 13 - 4.5
14 to 16 - 4
17 to 19 - 3.5
20 to 22 - 3
23 to 25 - 2.5
26 to 28 - 2
29 to 31 - 1.5
32 to 34 - 1
35 to 37 - 0.5
38+ - 0
Any opinions?
Hope the following makes sense:
ReplyDeleteWhen one marks a Dissertation, one assesses a whole load of criteria, allotting a mark against each. Then one adds up or averages them, and if say the overall hits 85% plus, it's a First. If it's less than that but over (say) 70%, it's a 2:1. Over 55%, it's a 2:2 and so on.
To us markers, in the main, there's not a lot of difference between Firsts - a bit of personal opinion perhaps. Otherwise, it's just ego.
So I think you should use the marks to Grade the snorkers. You could have star ratings for instance, meaning that you don't necessarily rate one better than another - just all good, or whatever.
As to shrinkage, it's got to be a 5 mark scale like the others - otherwise, the maths is too much!
Well, the other categories have half marks in there already. Good comment though, ta.
ReplyDeletehi, i think you should get a picture of roy the trophy maker on this site he sounds a right porker !
ReplyDeleteMr Anon, I'll pass on your kind words to Roy. But you're wrong, it's ME who is a porker, Roy is simply the size of a brick outhouse.
